CE conformity assessment of a pressure vessel — COCH notified body

Conformity Assessment – CE Marking

Accredited certification and inspection of pressure equipment (PED 2014/68/EU), simple pressure vessels (SPV 2014/29/EU) and environmental noise emission (Noise 2000/14/EC) by EU Notified Body No. 1462.

European Union Notified Body No. 1462

CE marking is a key legal requirement enabling many products to be placed on the European Union market. It confirms that the product has undergone conformity assessment against essential requirements for safety, health and environmental protection set by EU law.

The Central Centre of Refrigeration “COCH” in Krakow conducts product conformity assessment in full respect of independence, confidentiality and impartiality. As EU Notified Body No. 1462 registered in the European Commission’s NANDO database, we provide manufacturers and authorised representatives with competent verification enabling lawful CE marking.

COCH holds PCA accreditation AC 036 (Product Certification Body — PN-EN ISO/IEC 17065) and AC 056 (Type A Inspection Body — PN-EN ISO/IEC 17020). Our notified scope covers pressure equipment (PED 2014/68/EU), simple pressure vessels (SPV 2014/29/EU) and noise emission of compressor units below 350 kW (Noise 2000/14/EC). The service is addressed to manufacturers in Europe and beyond who intend to sell on the EEA market — including refrigeration, air-conditioning, heat-pump and refrigerated-transport equipment.

CE conformity assessment is not the same as voluntary product certification under programme PR-01 or the Polish safety mark „B”. Those paths are complementary; details are explained in the FAQ and related service pages.

Authorised directives and modules

Technical criteria, exclusions and assessment modules according to EU legislation within COCH notification.

PED 2014/68/EU

Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU)

Applies to equipment and assemblies with a maximum allowable pressure PS exceeding 0.5 bar. This includes vessels, piping, safety accessories and pressure accessories (such as compressor units, heat exchangers, valves).

Supported assessment modules:

  • Module B (Production type) — EU type-examination
  • Module B (Design type) — EU design-examination
  • Module C2 — Conformity to type based on internal production control plus supervised checks
  • Module D / D1 — Quality assurance of the production process
  • Module E / E1 — Product quality assurance (inspection and testing)
  • Module F — Product verification (conformity checks on each item)
  • Module G — Conformity based on unit verification (ideal for single prototypes)
  • Module H1 — Conformity based on full quality assurance plus design examination
Supervised checks under Module A2

Manufacture monitoring and random pressure equipment checks at random intervals are carried out by our accredited Type A Inspection Body (AC 056) complying with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17020. This requires a separate application (F-05_JC / PED Module A2).

PED Module A2 inspection
SPV 2014/29/EU

Simple Pressure Vessels Directive (SPV 2014/29/EU)

Applies to series-manufactured welded simple pressure vessels intended to contain air or nitrogen, subject to an internal pressure greater than 0.5 bar, and not exposed to flame.

Technical criteria and limits:

  • Materials: non-alloy quality steel, non-alloy aluminium, or non-aging-hardened aluminium alloys.
  • Geometry: cylindrical body closed by outward-facing dished or flat heads.
  • Operating pressure: maximum working pressure (PS) up to 30 bar.
  • Pressure–volume product: PS × V must not exceed 10,000 bar·L.
  • Temperature range: min −50°C; max 300°C for steel vessels, or 100°C for aluminium.
Strict directive exclusions

Vessels designed specifically for nuclear applications, vessels intended for installation on ships or aircraft, and portable fire extinguishers.

NOISE 2000/14/EC

Noise Emission Directive (2000/14/EC)

Applies to outdoor equipment. COCH holds accreditation and notification for noise assessment of compressor units with output power below 350 kW.

Compressor unit definition:

  • A machine compressing air, gases or vapours to a pressure higher than inlet pressure, consisting of the core compressor, drive source (engine) and standard safety/operation accessories.
  • Exclusions: fans with static operating pressure ≤ 110,000 Pa, vacuum pumps, and gas turbine engines.
Flexible scope of accreditation

COCH holds a flexible scope of accreditation for Noise under AC 036. Updated harmonised methods and parameters can be applied without waiting for a separate PCA assessment visit.

Frequently asked questions

Accreditation, process, documents, timeline, costs — and how CE differs from PR-01 and mark „B”.

CE conformity assessment is a legally required path for placing certain products on the EU/EEA market under applicable New Approach directives (here: PED, SPV and Noise). Voluntary product certification under programme PR-01 (PCA AC 036) confirms conformity with product standards for HVACR equipment and is not a substitute for CE. The Polish safety mark „B” is a separate voluntary common guarantee trademark. Choose CE when a directive requires notified-body involvement; choose PR-01 or mark „B” when you need additional market trust beyond mandatory CE.

Accreditation AC 036 & AC 056 — PCA and EU notification

Official PCA certificates confirm conformity with ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17020. Notified Body 1462 gives legal effect to CE assessments within the notified scope.
