What is the F-Gas Automotive Air Conditioning Training?

Over 50 years of COCH experience in refrigeration and air conditioning - now delivered in a specialized automotive course format.

fgazyAutoAc.about.definition

In the face of growing environmental requirements and legal regulations, knowledge of refrigerants, especially F-GASES, is key for specialists dealing with automotive air conditioning. Our F-GAS training covers both theory and practical skills needed for safe and effective management of automotive air conditioning systems.

The training program contains information on properties and applications of F-GASES, methods of diagnosing, repairing, and servicing air conditioning systems, as well as minimizing their negative impact on the environment. Participants receive a certificate confirming the acquisition of necessary qualifications to work with F-GASES in accordance with EU regulations.

To guarantee your seat, prepayment is required at least 3 business days before the course begins. Comprehensive training booklets, full catering (including a warm lunch and coffee breaks), and free on-site parking at COCH are completely included. The theoretical exam is conducted on-site on the same day at no extra cost.

Who is this course for?

This training is aimed primarily at auto workshop employees who on a daily basis deal with the installation, maintenance, or servicing of air conditioning systems in vehicles. Our educational program not only enables deepening knowledge of the design, operation, and maintenance of car air conditioning, but also develops the practical skills necessary for the effective and safe execution of professional duties. Participants gain not only valuable theoretical foundations, but also hands-on experience, which is key for raising professional qualifications in the automotive industry.

Training Curriculum – What is Covered?

One-day F-gas training for vehicle air conditioning: from regulations and ecology to diagnostics, R134a and R1234yf recovery and leak detection – preparing for the F-gas certificate exam.

Theoretical Section

  • Refrigerants and their environmental impact

Properties and environmental impact of vehicle refrigerants: R134a, R1234yf (HFO) and R744 (CO₂). GWP and ODP, the MAC Directive 2006/40/EC and F-gas rules for vehicle air conditioning.

  • Refrigeration theory basics

The refrigeration cycle and how a vehicle vapour-compression A/C system works, refrigerant pressure-temperature relationship, system operating parameters.

  • Vehicle A/C components

Design of compressors (piston, variable displacement, electric), condensers, evaporators, receiver-driers/accumulators, expansion valves and orifice tubes.

  • Air conditioning and thermal comfort

The effect of vehicle air conditioning on passenger health and comfort, cabin microclimate, air dehumidification and the role of the cabin filter.

  • Service tools and equipment

A/C service stations for recovery and charging, gauges, refrigerant scales, thermometers and electronic leak detectors.

Practical Section

  • Vehicle A/C system design

Hands-on study of a real air-conditioning system on a training stand and identification of its components.

  • Diagnostics and fault simulation

Diagnosing faulty vehicle A/C operation from pressures, temperatures and compressor parameters – on simulated faults.

  • Service procedures

Refrigerant recovery with an A/C service station, refrigerant recycling, evacuation, vacuum leak test and charging according to vehicle manufacturer data.

  • Leak detection

Detecting micro-leaks in the A/C system with electronic detectors, UV dye and forming gas (nitrogen-hydrogen).

Mobile A/C Regulations (Regulation EC 307/2008)

Under Commission Regulation (EC) No 307/2008, all personnel performing refrigerant recovery from mobile air conditioning systems (found in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes) must hold an official proof of training certificate. This course fully complies with legal standards and is prerequisite to purchasing refrigerant cylinders from gas distributors.
